The letter behind Dear Someone

Mika · CanadaTranslated from French

Dear Someone,

I spent three years walking the streets of Montréal, stopping perfect strangers to ask them to share a piece of their story.

In those three years, I never earned so little, and yet I never felt so rich. Rich with all those interactions, more profound and honest than most conversations I'd had before.

Those three years shaped me more than any others. They didn't teach me to speak Mandarin, build a house or play the slide trombone. No, they taught me something far more important: empathy, and a better understanding of myself.
